Alefiya Akbarally works as a photographer in the commercial and social documentary arena. Her work has appeared in local and international magazines and journals; The British Journal of Photography (BJP), The Harbus (The Harvard University Publication), Serendib for Sri Lankan Airlines and Business Traveler Asia.

Having lived and studied in Australia and England , Alefiya is currently based in her homeland Sri Lanka . Here she finds a convenient blend of her love for the outdoors and her love of photography. While studying photography at the London College of Communication, she developed a strong background in both pre and post production processes. This led her to take on the role as Picture Editor for the London based Serendipity Magazine.

Alefiya was also selected for two workshops conducted by the Goethe Institut in Sri Lanka and Mumbai - Urban Changes in which the study of Urban Fabric began; and Imagine Tropics in which she started work on her Off the Peg series. She was also chosen as a participant for the 2007 Ankor Photo Festival workshop.

When not mountain biking on rugged terrain, or scuba diving off the shores of Sri Lanka, she can usually be found working with her chief critic, pet Labrador Cuba.

'I’ve worked with Alefiya for the past couple of years and I am a huge fan of her work. When I asked her to be the Picture Editor for Serendipity magazine, I couldn't think of anybody who could better provide to bring to life our vision for an aspirational, inspirational take on global Sri Lankan culture.

She has a great sense of style and an honesty of perspective – whether she is shooting a glossy, high end boutique hotel or capturing the essence of a man of letters.

She has a passion and integrity that is rare to find, and I look forward to working with her on many projects in the future.'
